Magic 2013 ? The Most Fun I?ve Ever Had Playing A Game On The Go [iPad]

magic ipad gameAbout a year ago, I was hardcore into Magic: The Gathering. I have amassed a large collection of cards over the years of playing, but in time, I found myself not having enough time to keep up with the Magic scene. I won?t lie; I miss playing a great deal. The subtle intricacies of the card game are like nothing else. The skill and strategy involved in a game of Magic is enough to flex the brain muscles of even the smartest players.

The problem with Magic is that it?s not easy to get into. You have to learn a lot, and collecting the cards required can be rather expensive. However, if you own an iPad you can get into playing Magic for no money, and the game, called Magic 2013, will teach you everything you need to know about playing the card game. It removes the large barrier to entry, and it does it in the single most fun and well-made game I?ve ever played on the iPad.

Features

The first thing I need to mention about Magic 2013 is that you can actually grab the app from the App Store for free. There is a $10 in-app purchase if you want the full game, but you can have a lot of fun playing just the free version. A game of this quality for free is something you don?t see everyday, and it?s a game every iPad owner should install.

The game features a single player campaign where you play against various characters from the Magic universe. There are standard games of Magic, and a new mode called Encounters. In these Encounters, you play against an AI opponent who does specific things in each game. This is designed to test your skills in certain situations.

For new Magic: The Gathering players, the game features a fantastic tutorial designed to show you all the basic gameplay mechanics. If you are new to the game, you absolutely must play through this, or you will be lost. The developers do a great job of making the tutorial fun by having you play as you learn. If you?ve always wanted to get into the collectible card game, this iPad game is the way to do it.

The game also features online, one-on-one multiplayer. This allows you to get together with a friend and go head-to-head in an intense game of Magic. Playing Magic against the computer is good; playing with your friends is absolutely incredible.

Opinions

As I said in the opening, Magic 2013 is by far my favorite game on the iPad. I looks absolutely beautiful. Both the cards and play backgrounds look stunning on the iPad, especially on the newer iPad models with Retina screens.

The controls for the game are incredibly intuitive. To play a card from your hand, simply drag it to the play surface. It just makes sense, and it fits in perfectly on the iPad. Navigating the menus is easy and quite simply, they just make sense. Even if you?ve never played the game before, you can easily pick up the iPad version and know exactly what each menu option of the game does.

There is plenty of gameplay to keep you busy for hours on end. Even if you only get the free version, you will still have a couple of hours of gameplay to keep you happy for a good while. If you do purchase the full game, be prepared for almost limitless gameplay. Between the campaign, multiplayer, challenge modes and everything else this game has to offer, you will be busy for a while.

Conclusion

Stop reading this review, go to the App Store, and download Magic 2013. I promise you will not be disappointed. It is about as good as an iPad game can get.
