Should I cut down the amount of time to cook it? For a whole chicken, the recipe says high for 4 to 5 hours. I?m just making it with two boneless chicken breasts though. I don?t want to burn the meal, but I don?t want to under cook it either? If you need to know, it is spanish chicken so the wet stuff includes a tomato paste mixed with beer. That?s pretty much it (besides sprinkling salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder on the chicken breasts).
Haha, OK here?s the recipe as requested:
ONE 3-4lb whole chicken
1 tsp. salt
1/2tsp. pepper
1/2tsp. paprika
1/2tsp. garlic powder
ONE 6oz. can tomato paste
1/2 cup beer
ONE 3oz. jar stuffed olives, w/ liquid
Place chicken in the stoneware. Season w/ salt/pepper/paprika/garlic. Mix tomato paste and beer together and pour over chicken. Add olives. Cover and cook on low 8-10 hrs OR on high 4-5 hours. Serve over rice or noodles.

Clemens accuses prosecutors of provoking mistrial (AP)
WASHINGTON ? With his trial abruptly cut short, former baseball star Roger Clemens argued Friday that prosecutors intentionally goaded him into asking for a mistrial and asked a judge to throw out his indictment on charges of lying to Congress.
Clemens argued that a new trial would violate his constitutional right against the double jeopardy of facing the same charge twice.
His lawyers said prosecutors' revelation that a teammate told his wife that Clemens confessed to using a drug "was no accident." They said the prosecutors chose to ignore U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton's order against using her testimony so they could provoke a mistrial because their case was going badly. The mistrial came on the second day of testimony in a trial that had been expected to last four to six weeks.
Most legal experts who reviewed copies of the Clemens transcripts for The Associated Press say he probably will face a second trial under rules established by the Supreme Court. They said that when a mistrial is requested by the accused, the general rule is that the guarantee against double jeopardy does not prevent another trial unless the judge finds prosecutors provoked a mistrial. But the experts point out there's no indication prosecutors would have wanted to start their case over so soon.
But the Clemens team argued "this is the rare case" that meets the standard.
"By the time the government provoked the mistrial, its highly experienced counsel had suffered a series of setbacks that cast doubt on the case against Mr. Clemens," defense attorneys wrote. They pointed out that prosecutors have not said they made a mistake and argued that the violations "were critical, hotly contested pretrial issues that no experienced prosecutor could simply have missed when it came time to finalize exhibits and prepare witnesses."
Prosecutors have three weeks to respond. Walton has set a Sept. 2 hearing on the retrial issue.
Clemens' attorneys argued that the record-setting pitcher has lived in a continuing state of anxiety and insecurity over the possibility that even though innocent he may be found guilty. They argued a second trial would reward government misconduct by giving prosecutors a chance to improve jury selection, hone its trial strategy and address other issues raised early in the first trial.
"The government had its day in court and squandered it with misconduct that irretrievably wasted time, money and the opportunity for a one-time, fair resolution of these charges for all involved," Clemens' attorneys wrote in their filing.
The sudden ending to Clemens' trial came when prosecutors showed jurors a video of his 2008 testimony before Congress in which the he denied ever using performance-enhancing drugs during his 24-season career. Clemens is charged with lying under oath when he made that denial.
In the video, Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., pointed out that Clemens' good friend and teammate, Andy Pettitte, says Clemens admitted using human growth hormone in a private conversation in 1999 or 2000. Clemens responded that Pettitte "misheard" or "misremembered" their conversation. But Cummings said Pettitte's wife, Laura, has given lawmakers an affidavit saying that her husband told her about the conversation with Clemens at the time it happened.
Walton had ruled before the trial began that Laura Pettitte's comments were inadmissible hearsay because she didn't speak to Clemens directly. When jurors began to hear about Laura Pettitte's statement, Walton quickly cut off the tape and admonished prosecutors. Clemens attorney Rusty Hardin did not object when the material appeared on the video. But after Walton stopped the presentation, Hardin at first asked the judge to tell jurors to disregard references to Laura Pettitte, but then asked for a mistrial. Walton agreed, saying he didn't know how he could "un-ring the bell" and give Clemens a fair trial with that jury.
Clemens attorneys argued it was the second time prosecutors had violated Walton's pre-trial orders. The first came, they said, during opening arguments when assistant U.S. attorney Steven Durham said Clemens' Yankee teammates would testify that they used human growth hormone. Walton told jurors to ignore the mention of the other players' drug use, since he previously told prosecutors he was concerned that it could lead jurors to conclude Clemens was guilty by association.

The story's opening sentence set the tone: "Contraceptives, sterilization and reproductive education should be covered by health insurance plans with no cost to patients under the health reform law, a new report recommends."
In a tone that can only be called cheerleading, CNN tells its audience that the Institute of Medicine has made these recommendations to the secretary of Health and Human Services. "Historic" is the way HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius described the report, adding that "we will release the Department's recommendations of what additional preventive services for women should be covered without cost sharing very soon."
Now, why, you may wonder, does the secretary of Health and Human Services get to decide whether to adopt the report's recommendations? Well, under Obamacare, health care has been nationalized. Among the roughly 700 references in the law to "the Secretary shall" is one mandating that the secretary shall decide which health care plans are acceptable in America and which are not. If a plan does not comply with HHS mandates, companies and individuals who purchase their products will have to pay a fine. In other words, under Obamacare, the secretary of HHS decides who gets covered for what.
The secretary is now considering whether all health plans in America will have to cover birth control, annual HIV tests, well-woman care visits, annual counseling on sexually transmitted diseases, breastfeeding support and counseling including rental of breast pumps, and screening and counseling for interpersonal and domestic abuse. These services should be covered "without any co-pays or deductibles," the report by the Institute of Medicine urges. In other words, these products and services should be "free" for all women, not just for the poor.
CNN quotes the president of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. James Martin Jr., who believes that "unimpeded access to affordable contraceptives for all women is foundational."
But why stop there? The biggest killer of women is heart disease. Shouldn't cholesterol tests, EKGs and stress tests be covered by insurance at no cost to the women themselves? And surely counseling about the risks of a high-fat diet and sedentary lifestyle should be included, too, no? At no cost to the patients, of course. And then there's cancer, the second biggest threat to women's health. So mammograms and annual doctor visits should be free. And certainly counseling about the dangers of smoking, excessive drinking and poor diet should be "fully covered," as well. Come to think of it, gym memberships should definitely be covered at no cost to the women.
But what about men? Men are far less likely than women to seek medical treatment. And men are dropping every year from heart attacks, strokes, accidents and cancer. Surely if their "well-man" annuals were "free," they would be more likely to get the treatment and preventive care they need.
And what about helpless children? Surely only an ogre would want to charge children a fee to get their vaccinations, checkups and medicine. And certainly adolescents should receive counseling about sexuality, date rape, drugs and alcohol. Shall we say monthly? Perhaps weekly?
Sebelius praised the IOM report as "based on science and existing literature." By literature, she perhaps means Cinderella, in which a kindly fairy grandmother waves a magic wand and produces dresses, coaches and jewels "at no cost" to Cinderella. She surely cannot mean the medical literature.
Though the Obama administration never tires of repeating this falsehood, the science does not support the claim that increased spending on preventive care reduces overall costs. The journal Health Affairs has studied the literature and concluded, "Over the four decades since cost-effectiveness analysis was first applied to health and medicine, hundreds of studies have shown that prevention usually adds to medical costs instead of reducing them. Medications for hypertension and elevated cholesterol, diet and exercise to prevent diabetes, and screening and early treatment for cancer all add more to medical costs than they save."
An administration that preens about its "evidence-based" policymaking constantly errs about what medical research has shown. But even more flagrantly, it fails to grasp the very first lesson of economics: Nothing is free. Someone will pay. As the great P.J. O'Rourke put it many years ago, "If you think health care is expensive now, just wait till it's free."

Mesa insurance company robbed at gunpoint

Two men robbed a Mesa insurance company at gunpoint, stealing cash and purses from the victims inside, around 8:15 p.m. Monday at the Brooke Insurance agency near Val Vista Drive and Southern Avenue.
According to police, two men entered the agency wearing black ski masks and pointing handguns, and took an undisclosed amount of cash from a desk drawer, along with three purses and a wallet.
No surveillance video was captured of the incident.
One suspect is described as a White or Hispanic man, thin build, about 5-foot-5-inches tall, and 20- to 25-years-old. The first man was last seen wearing dark skinny jeans, a long-sleeved white shirt, white high-top shoes, a black ski mask, and black latex gloves.
The second suspect is similarly described to the first, though police are unsure the color of his pants or shirt.
Anyone with information should contact Mesa police at 480-644-2211 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

Getting the kids to calm down | Home-Family-Parenting Blog
Bringing up my 3 kids has never been an easy task. There are times where they just going around shouting, screaming and messing things ask. There are also moment where they will fight each other even over small matters. Really tough for parents like us.
I need to learn how to calm them down so as to make the home a better place. Many of us in the house are unable to focus because of these kids and there must be some solution for that. I have used discipline and even carrots, nothing seems to work very well. I really do not want to constraint them, but yet for the good of everyone, I guess I really have to do something.
Checking internet reveal several things I can do. In this website focusing on kids learning, I have found post focusing on how to get the kid to calm down. Even oil as well as aromatherapy are possible means to accomplish this. This interesting and I will spend more time working on it.

Drinking And Gaming Can Kill a High Score

Today during my lunch break I read this article in a magazine claiming that males between the ages 15-30 has been drinking less and less amounts (volumes if you will) of alcohol for the last 10 years. Swedes beings very anxious about drug and alcohol intake this is measured in a huge poll every year.
The reason claimed? Gaming of course? The main reason for man-agers in Sweden to drink less is gaming. No other reason can be found according to the study. We game more and thus drink less. (No mention of the poor girls who were completely left out)
The article was a so-so written piece about a local video-games club that banned all alcohol from their gaming meetings. This is a good thing not? Youth try alcohol far later in life due to games. (And probably lose their virginity far later as well, I thought.) However, if this can save even one person from alcoholism, then I am all for it.
Problem is, I have always viewed gaming as a perfect pastime while drinking, and if there is an alcohol-ban in this gaming club, is Red Dead Redemption banned too?
One thought here is that while gaming strives to be accepted both an "arts media" and also in many lengths a "sport". In the latter, alcohol and drugs should be regarded as a non grata for obvious reasons.
While on the other hand, a lot of games actually in some way enforce the "party" side of gaming. Not to say all the things you can do in a game while intoxicated that is otherwise illegal if you do it IRL.
A lot of gaming is being done with a beer, glass of wine, shots or even a bong.
I have done my fair share of drinking while gaming and yes, Gran Turismo gets harder and harder but that Singstar high score gets closer and closer as well. To be honest I have never even played Singstar or Guitar Hero or any Move/Kinect game when completely sober.
Also the "drug" part, I remember myself being unbeatable in Battlefield 2 a couple of years back when I smoked pot. It probably was just me being good at the game, but fact is I was performing a lot worse when sober.

Gonorrhea's Growing Resistance to Antibiotics Concerns CDC (HealthDay)
THURSDAY, July 7 (HealthDay News) -- Gonorrhea appears to be growing increasingly resistant to drugs called cephalosporins, the only remaining class of antibiotics available to treat the sexually transmitted disease, according to a new report.
Researchers analyzed 10 years' worth of gonorrhea samples (isolates) from men in 30 U.S. cities. The samples were collected between January 2000 and June 2010 through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Gonococcal Isolate Surveillance Project.
The analysis revealed an increase in the proportion of samples with elevated minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs), the lowest concentration of antibiotics needed to halt the growth of gonorrhea bacteria. These increases in MICs suggest a decline in gonorrhea's susceptibility to antibiotics, the researchers explained in a CDC news release.
During the study period, the percentage of gonorrhea samples exhibiting elevated MICs rose from 0.2 to 1.4 percent of samples for cefixime (an oral cephalosporin) and from 0.1 to 0.3 percent for ceftriaxone (an injectable cephalosporin).
To date, there are no recorded cases of patients with gonorrhea that couldn't be treated with these antibiotics in the United States.
The study is published in the July 8 edition of the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
The researchers called for increased efforts to develop new treatments and a boost in gonorrhea surveillance in order to identify emerging patterns of antibiotic resistance in gonorrhea as they occur.
Over time, gonorrhea has developed resistance to several antibiotics. The CDC currently recommends dual therapy of cephalosporins with either azithromycin or doxycycline. Treatment options would become substantially limited if gonorrhea becomes resistant to cephalosporins, the researchers warned.
Left untreated, gonorrhea can cause infertility in women and increase the risk of infection with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, for men and women.

Woman accused of shipping paint to Pakistani plant (AP)
WASHINGTON ? A former managing director of a Chinese company appeared in federal court Thursday on charges that she secretly exported hundreds of gallons of paint coatings to a nuclear power plant in Pakistan.
Prosecutors say Xun Wang, who pleaded not guilty and was ordered held, exported the high-performance coatings to the Chashma II plant without obtaining the required license from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Wang at the time was managing director of architectural coatings at PPG Paints Trading, which in December pleaded guilty to exporting high-performance coatings to the same nuclear reactor and agreed to pay a $3.75 million penalty. The company is a foreign subsidiary of Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries, Inc.
The Commerce Department in June 2006 denied PPG Industries' request for a license to export the coatings. PPG Industries officials notified Wang of the decision and said that she and other company officials "must abide by the ruling."
Nonetheless, the indictment alleges, Wang and other PPG Paints Trading representatives arranged to export the coatings to the Pakistani reactor through a third-party company in China. The purchase orders falsely identified a Chinese nuclear power station as the end user for the shipments, prosecutors say.
She was arrested in Georgia on a federal warrant last month and appeared Thursday in U.S. District Court in Washington, where she faces charges including conspiracy and illegal exporting. She was ordered held without bond, pending a detention hearing on Tuesday.
One of her attorneys, Bruce A. Baird, had no immediate comment after the arraignment. Wang also did not make any statements during her brief appearance.
China is helping Pakistan build the Chashma plant. While the facility is designed for power production, there is concern that spent fuel from the plant could be reprocessed to produce plutonium and uranium that can be used in nuclear weapons.
"It does highlight the growing problem of China and Chinese companies as a vehicle for countries like Iran and Pakistan to outfit their nuclear programs," said Paul Brannan of the Institute for Science and International Security.
Wang's arraignment comes at a time when the U.S. and Pakistan are trying to overcome deep mutual distrust in their joint fight against militant extremists. And it marked at least the second time four months that the U.S. has charged someone with smuggling restricted technology to Pakistan's nuclear program.
The U.S. announced in March that it was charging a Pakistani man living in Maryland with illegally buying sensitive technology for his country's nuclear program. The indictment charged Nadeem Akhtar, 45, of Silver Spring with buying radiation detection devices, resins for coolant water purification and calibration devices for the Chashma nuclear power project and perhaps other, weapons-related facilities.
Pakistan is thought to have between 70 and 120 warheads and is in the process of accelerating production.
United States officials have repeatedly expressed confidence in the security of Pakistan's arsenal and Washington has spent millions helping Pakistan protect its weapons
But a recent report by the Federation of American Scientists warned that the risk of Pakistani militants getting their hands on a nuclear weapon or the materials needed to build a bomb is rising.

Organizational transformation is not ? repeat not ? a zero-sum game
One of the most self-defeating mindsets is suggested by the admonition, ?You can?t have your cake and eat it too.? Obviously there are situations when there are two options that are mutually-exclusive. However, most of the time, when facing a choice, it is a mistake to select only one and dismiss all others. Inder Sidhu does not advocate ?a balanced compromise between two objectives, but [rather] a mutually reinforcing multiplier in which each side makes the other better.? He cites comments included in Built to Last (1994) co-authored by Jim Collins and Jerry Porras when discussing a highly visionary company ?that doesn?t want to blend yin and yang into a gray indistinguishable circle that is neither highly yin nor highly yang; it aims to be distinctly yin and distinctly yang ? both at the same time, all the time. Irrational? Perhaps. Rare? Yes. Difficult? Absolutely.?
Sidhu devotes the bulk of his lively narrative to explaining how exemplar companies such as Apple, BYD, Cisco, GE, Google, IBM, and Procter & Gamble achieve these strategic objectives:
? Improving the core business while conducting disruptive innovation
? Strengthening current account relationships while adding new ones
? Fine-tuning what is done well while transforming or eliminating what isn?t
? Creating customer evangelists while creating steadfast partners
? Thriving on ?Main Street? while exploring ?the road less traveled?? Doing it right and doing what is right (i.e. what matters)
Obviously, doing both (of whatever) is not always possible or, when possible, advisable. Also, any lessons learned from the exemplar companies such as those Sidhu examines (especially Cisco) must be modified to accommodate the specific needs and resources of much smaller organizations.
With all due respect to the value of these lessons, I think the single greatest benefit of this book is the mindset it can help its reader to develop. Although Sidhu does not cite them and their books, he has clearly been influenced (albeit indirectly) by business thinkers such as Henry Chesbrough (Open Innovation and Open Business Models) and Roger Martin (The Opposable Mind) as well as Venkat Ramaswamy and Francis Gouilllart (The Power of Co-Creation). The most effective executives an open mind in combination with insatiable curiosity, emotional intelligence, and highly-developed skills for integrative thinking. Organizations as well as individuals must never play a zero-sum game. Long-term growth and short-term profitability are NOT mutually exclusive.
The authors? recommendations in the aforementioned books track almost seamlessly with Sudhu?s own:
1. Be open-minded to possibilities, whenever/wherever they occur
2. Respect and examine those that are plausible, especially if unorthodox
3. Seek out collaborations that are mutually-beneficial
4. Welcome each ?failure? as a precious learning opportunity
5. Juxtapose (for rigorous scrutiny) contradictory ideas and options
6. Embrace change as an ally, not as a threat
7. Achieve constant improvement with a discovery-driven process
8. Welcome and support principled dissent
9. Cultivate and nourish an insatiable appetite for learning
10. Constantly challenge what James O?Toole characterizes as ?the ideology of comfort and the tyranny of custom?
I highly recommend all of the aforementioned books as well as Dean Spitzer?s Transforming Performance Measurement; also Enterprise Architecture as Strategy co-authored by Jeanne Ross, Peter Weill, and David Robertson.
