Nature and Purpose of Work
The Extension IT Analyst, will be a University of Illinois Extension employee. The Extension IT Analyst will be responsible for providing support for statewide University of Illinois Extension information technology services as it relates to network administration, server management, electronic communications and end-user support for more than 700 employees. This position will support the educational outreach mission of University of Illinois Extension through instructional/educational delivery systems.
Administrative Relationship
The Extension IT Analyst is administratively responsible to the University of Illinois Extension Director of Information Technology.
Specific Responsibilities
- Provide front-line support to statewide network of Extension field staff for desktop and mobile computing, network storage and security, productivity software, and internet connectivity for the educational outreach of University of Illinois Extension.
- Collaborate with other IT staff to provide support and assistance to IT end-users over a wide geographic area.
- Ensure secure and consistent backup of all network data.
- Evaluate effectiveness and develop an inventory system of equipment connected to large-scale network.
- Evaluate network security and performance and provide independent recommendations for creative solutions and operational efficiencies.
- Provide analysis and feedback to Extension IT staff regarding suggestions for improvement/enhancement of network and computing infrastructure and processes.
- Develop a professional development plan to regularly improve technical competencies.

- Significant travel required. Personal transportation required.
- Work will involve flexible hours.
- Perform other duties that contribute to University of Illinois Extension as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in system and network administration and/or desktop support.
- Direct and practical experience with Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and 2008.
- Experience with Windows Active Directory in a WAN environment.
- Experience with typical desktop applications, including Microsoft Office 2010 and 2007, Adobe Acrobat, and internet browsers such as Internet Explorer and Firefox.
- Experience in software and hardware installation and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of various internet connectivity technologies used by private ISPs, including DSL and cable modems.
- Experience in remote desktop assistance.
- Proven ability to work independently in remote locations and as part of collaborative teams.
- Must be self-directing.
- Good communication skills (oral and written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Windows DNS, DHCP and VPN.
- 3 years' experience in system and network administration and desktop support.
- Familiarity with centralized support request tracking systems.
- Knowledge of mobile technologies, including tablet computers.
- Knowledge of technologies used to capture and broadcast live or asynchronous education events.
- Knowledge of purpose and mission of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences and University of Illinois Extension.
- Skill and experience in communicating technical material to technical and non-technical users.
Additional Information
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
