The Whites are currently on course to qualify for the continental competition as they lead Group E with a 100 per cent record so far courtesy of victories over Uzbekistan (2-1) and Vietnam (2-1).

Ali then may be confident of guiding his team to the tournament under his own steam, but it is clear that Dubai?s honorary sports ambassador would like to have some say in the matter.

?I?ll see him very soon and we might exchange some ideas and study how we can improve the process of coaching, update plans and make the UAE national team a very strong side,? the ex Al Wasl and Argentina boss, 52, said. ?We could examine how to fill in the gaps and find out what is lacking in the UAE national team so that it might advance and be present in the international competitions.?

Dr Ahmed Al Sharif, the Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, meanwhile has informed the UAE Football Association of Maradona?s desire to contribute to the cause in some capacity.

?We?ve talked about the idea of making use of Maradona?s experience with the national football association,? Al Sharif explained.

?Maradona expressed his own willingness and I talked to the chairman of the UAE Football Association, Yousuf Al Serkal, and notified him that Maradona is ready to present his own expertise and play any role.

?Maradona is always here to support any activity in an official or unofficial capacity.?
