New York couple drowns in Costa Rica's Central Pacific region six days after their wedding

The Costa Rican Red Cross recovered their bodies Wednesday afternoon at Playa Linda in Quepos.

A recently married couple from New York drowned while on vacation in Costa Rica at a Central Pacific beach, with authorities blaming rip currents.

Bruce Loev, 55, and Ruth Rowe, 57, had come to Costa Rica to vacation after their wedding on July 4, according to a statement from Rowe?s employer. Rowe was a teacher at Pawling Middle School, a town north of New York City, along the Connecticut border.

The Costa Rican Red Cross recovered the two bodies at Playa Linda in Quepos, reporting that witnesses told them rip currents were strong when the couple drowned.

William Ward, the Pawling school superintendent, praised Rowe in his statement.

?Ms. Rowe was known as a caring and dedicated teacher who was highly regarded by parents, students, and colleagues,? he said.
